I love the shelves over your couch. I need to start taking decorating lessons from you, STAT
AskAlice: Hahaha we will rule the world!
Ill-fittingOvercoat: We don’t talk about those moments…
Mermanda: Loosen up!
I am a whore for symmetricality (is that a word?) so I’m not sure if a cluster of frames on my wall would send me to the crazy house. But it does seem very likely. Good luck adjusting your frames one day at a time. That sounds really fun!
It looks great! And this is my exact approach to home projects. Most of the time it works like a charm. Except, you know, when it doesn’t… whatever.
Great job Ben! I love photo clusters and mine are definitely never measured. It drives my older sister nuts that I can just throw things up and it looks decent while she spends hours measuring, marking and leveling. Sucker!
I love the new shelf look too, that’s awesome!
Oh my goodness! I’m loving those photos on the wall — such a fun thing that makes any old room design-y. And the bookshelves look good, too!
Nice work, Ben!
Come be a domestic diva at my house! I want shelves and insanely awesome pictures!
Love the shelves.
And the photos.
Wanna come to my house and help me with a project? =)
Ha! I totally hear ya on #6. I used to love math until my calculus teacher told me music was pointless. You just don’t say that to a music lover.
Awesome job with the projects
Great projects Ben! They all look complete to me. I am with you on the math. I just throw things up on the wall. B has a heart attack and is constantly with a level, tape measure and pencil.
Re: #6- I KNEW IT.
That’s it! Due to your post, I have finally been inspired to paint the walls in my studio.
And by studio I mean, my extra bedroom–b/c I’m too cheap to in fact rent a cool bean eclectic space– that is painted (gulp) Pepto Bismol pink (I know), while it is cluttered with electronic gadgetry, still frames of past works, cameras, second hand furniture, local artisan works, egregiously overpriced established works and well, what DNA testing would surely come to identify as cat hair.
Thank you, thank you! I believe I may finally have to make the commitment and paint the room say, McDonald’s Shamrock Shake Green instead.
neat blog site!
be well,
jenji
Looks fabulous….I might get inspired and layout the picture frames that I’ve had sitting on the dining room table for about 2 months now…..
I think the shelves look great. Why did it take you so long to get to them?
Slacker.
I have a habit of walking into my patient’s house and trying to straighten their picture frames on the wall if I have to walk by them.
I do it when they’re not looking.
LOL number 1 is the best advice ever
Looks great! As an obsessive compulsive ragamuffin, I admire your “eyeballing”. No other way to go.
Oh, and that wall looks better on my right anyhow.
I love the way you’ve grouped your pictures, your house looks so sweet!
You’re just so domestic, I love it!
Lol! I love how you closed the blog post. I laughed. I laughed hard.
So…when Bobby and I get married and move into our house you’re coming to decorate, right?
Right?
…RIGHT?!
k, good.
We would totally be home project buddies. We have the same school of thought. Especially on the math, sobriety, and completion times. My husband drags projects out into oblivion. I don’t think we’ve ever completed a project together where I didn’t throw something at him.
Hello, inner gay interior designer! You call it laziness… I call it the path of least resistance.
Who is the hotty in the picture behind the shower curtain? NICE!
I hate you, because despite your lengthy attempts to convince us that the minimum of effort was put in, both projects came out fucking fabulous.
Good work!
I will definitely incorporate “COMPLETE” into my life. Things will be complete because I SAY SO!
Thanks, Ben!
All home renos should be done drunk. Same with rearranging furniture.
you’re right about math! it’s done NOTHING for me!
I learned a LONG time ago that B and I don’t do well together trying to do home improvements. We always have different ideas on how things should be done and look…it’s fun though. Just add liquor and all is well!!
I’m going to steal that idea from you. Anytime I can’t think of a good way to end a post I’m just going to scream “BLOG POST COMPLETE” at everyone.
Amazing idea.
Those pictures look great! I’m totally copying you, once I can motivate myself to go buy frames (doubtful).
“I recently discovered the few, ultimate secrets to successful, stress-free home projects”
You’re missing number 8. Hire a day laborer and drink iced tea.
Lovely, lovely!!
You DO know that after this, women are going to kick out their husbands and adopt hot&handy gay men, right?
You're changing the world!
I love the way the collage of photos looks. I always try for this and the results are never quite right. Yours look fab.
Oooooo peeerrrty! Love it!
I am beyond words impressed that you actually got the frames filled and hung. My sis and I have had 15 empty frames staring us in the face for over a year. The closest I get to getting it done is moving them from the shelves to the coffee table and back every few weeks, still empty.
Your clustering looks beautiful! I am a little concerned that the wall was on the left and then it moved to right of the shelves….but that just proves how handy you really are, right?
Is it me or is the finished photo of the shelves a mirror image of the previous two?
I am highly impressed. I love doing handy type projects except I will mess up any and everything I take on. I’m pretty sure every picture frame I’ve ever hung has been oh so slightly crooked. Excellent work!
Look at you, becoming Martha Stewart! However, if you ever invite me to your house, I’m totally going to spend the entire night thumbing your frames as I try to align those pictures. It’s a terrible compulsion I have. Every time I visit my mom and she has new photos on her walls, I’m constantly straightening them. You’ve been warned.
Um I moved into my apartment in September and I still have unpacked boxes just sort of shoved in the corner. Also, I “have” a couch, but since it’s mainly used to store clean laundry, I don’t actually have it. So see? You were already up like, 50 million points from me just having pictures and shelves and such. Win.
Yes! Hilarious!
look at you look at you. you done good!
i love the way you filled the cabinets and the collage of pictures, I too have a collage up in my living room. =) have a great weekend!
I have to completely agree with you on #6. I hate math. I have never used what I learned in school for my daily life (well maybe sometimes, just sometimes). When I hang stuff of our walls, my hubs and I are all about Eyeballs. “How does it look?” “Um..a little more to the left?” “Okay. Good?” “Oh now to the right and make sure it’s straight..” “…” – it’s endless.
You wall looks great!!! Maybe you should start your own show on HGTV:)
The photo montage setup is exactly what I want in my family room. Love it! Love it! Love it!
You did a damn fine job sir.
And down with math! I passed with good grades, but I hated it with a passion.
I’m loving the photo collage!
Hahahaha…
BLOG POST COMPLETE.
This was pretty much the perfect end to the week.
Beautiful, beautiful…that reminds me I’ve been waiting for my dad to come visit so he could measure the placement of some photos, I’ve been inspired to screw it.
But…why were the shelves painted multicolors in the first place??
Everything looks awesome! Good job Ben!
I got an idea for my daughter’s room from a book and I thought “that will be easy! I’ll just do that!”
30 hours later and half-blind I finished it but mostly because it was either walk away or kill myself.
But it came out great. I’ll have to send you a picture.
I LOVE that collage of pictures.
