It’s like I’m…drrream date!

[The Dream Date series continues with Brandy of It's like I'm...mmmagic!]

2:00pm – Realize that Brandy arrived two hours ago and is still talking teacher with the newf.

2:05pm – Sit in oversized chair stroking Calvin whilst giving dirty looks and huffs in their direction.

2:15pm - Start tapping my toe as they move on to curriculum outcomes and what coloured pencil is the best coloured pencil.

2:30pm – Break a glass for attention. Receive time out of 23 minutes. Get mad about it. Receive an extra two minutes.

2:55pm – Celebrate release from time out only to realize that they have left on their own date without me.

3:02pm – Sulk.

I am a whore for symmetricality (is that a word?) so I’m not sure if a cluster of frames on my wall would send me to the crazy house. But it does seem very likely. Good luck adjusting your frames one day at a time. That sounds really fun!

It looks great! And this is my exact approach to home projects. Most of the time it works like a charm. Except, you know, when it doesn’t… whatever.

Great job Ben! I love photo clusters and mine are definitely never measured. It drives my older sister nuts that I can just throw things up and it looks decent while she spends hours measuring, marking and leveling. Sucker!

I love the new shelf look too, that’s awesome!

Oh my goodness! I’m loving those photos on the wall — such a fun thing that makes any old room design-y. And the bookshelves look good, too!

Nice work, Ben!

And the photos.
Wanna come to my house and help me with a project? =)

Ha! I totally hear ya on #6. I used to love math until my calculus teacher told me music was pointless. You just don’t say that to a music lover.

Awesome job with the projects :D

Great projects Ben! They all look complete to me. I am with you on the math. I just throw things up on the wall. B has a heart attack and is constantly with a level, tape measure and pencil.

That’s it! Due to your post, I have finally been inspired to paint the walls in my studio.

And by studio I mean, my extra bedroom–b/c I’m too cheap to in fact rent a cool bean eclectic space– that is painted (gulp) Pepto Bismol pink (I know), while it is cluttered with electronic gadgetry, still frames of past works, cameras, second hand furniture, local artisan works, egregiously overpriced established works and well, what DNA testing would surely come to identify as cat hair.

Thank you, thank you! I believe I may finally have to make the commitment and paint the room say, McDonald’s Shamrock Shake Green instead.

neat blog site!

be well,
jenji

Looks fabulous….I might get inspired and layout the picture frames that I’ve had sitting on the dining room table for about 2 months now…..

I think the shelves look great. Why did it take you so long to get to them?

Slacker.

I have a habit of walking into my patient’s house and trying to straighten their picture frames on the wall if I have to walk by them.
I do it when they’re not looking.

Oh, and that wall looks better on my right anyhow. :P

We would totally be home project buddies. We have the same school of thought. Especially on the math, sobriety, and completion times. My husband drags projects out into oblivion. I don’t think we’ve ever completed a project together where I didn’t throw something at him.

I hate you, because despite your lengthy attempts to convince us that the minimum of effort was put in, both projects came out fucking fabulous.

Good work!

I learned a LONG time ago that B and I don’t do well together trying to do home improvements. We always have different ideas on how things should be done and look…it’s fun though. Just add liquor and all is well!!

Amazing idea.

I am beyond words impressed that you actually got the frames filled and hung. My sis and I have had 15 empty frames staring us in the face for over a year. The closest I get to getting it done is moving them from the shelves to the coffee table and back every few weeks, still empty. :-(

Reply

Ari April 26, 2010 at 4:30 pm

Your clustering looks beautiful! I am a little concerned that the wall was on the left and then it moved to right of the shelves….but that just proves how handy you really are, right?

Reply

paul April 26, 2010 at 4:30 pm

Is it me or is the finished photo of the shelves a mirror image of the previous two?

Reply

Arielle April 26, 2010 at 4:30 pm

I am highly impressed. I love doing handy type projects except I will mess up any and everything I take on. I’m pretty sure every picture frame I’ve ever hung has been oh so slightly crooked. Excellent work!

Belle Ecrivaine April 26, 2010 at 4:30 pm

Look at you, becoming Martha Stewart! However, if you ever invite me to your house, I’m totally going to spend the entire night thumbing your frames as I try to align those pictures. It’s a terrible compulsion I have. Every time I visit my mom and she has new photos on her walls, I’m constantly straightening them. You’ve been warned.

Um I moved into my apartment in September and I still have unpacked boxes just sort of shoved in the corner. Also, I “have” a couch, but since it’s mainly used to store clean laundry, I don’t actually have it. So see? You were already up like, 50 million points from me just having pictures and shelves and such. Win.

I have to completely agree with you on #6. I hate math. I have never used what I learned in school for my daily life (well maybe sometimes, just sometimes). When I hang stuff of our walls, my hubs and I are all about Eyeballs. “How does it look?” “Um..a little more to the left?” “Okay. Good?” “Oh now to the right and make sure it’s straight..” “…” – it’s endless.

You wall looks great!!! Maybe you should start your own show on HGTV:)

Beautiful, beautiful…that reminds me I’ve been waiting for my dad to come visit so he could measure the placement of some photos, I’ve been inspired to screw it.

But…why were the shelves painted multicolors in the first place??

Everything looks awesome! Good job Ben!

I got an idea for my daughter’s room from a book and I thought “that will be easy! I’ll just do that!”

30 hours later and half-blind I finished it but mostly because it was either walk away or kill myself.

But it came out great. I’ll have to send you a picture.
